God is Not Watching From the Bedpost…. God’s in the Bed
Rev. John DePalma
OK, WELL, NEVER HAVE I EVER... given a public sex talk! I guess as you get older, even if you’re somewhat thin-skinned, you gotta just say what’s gotta be said!
We’ve been talking about the un-status quo, speaking about topics that generally aren’t talked about in a “church.” But in a transformational spiritual community, those are the very things that move us from “religious” to spiritual.
Kicking off the month Rev. Jeanette talked about “othering”. That is the ethnocentric (tribal) tendency to have reason to find an adversary, the other - and make oneself (one’s community) better than. Witnessing that tendency in oneself is the beginning of a deeper emotional and spiritual intelligence that leverages the creative process (Spiritual Mind treatment) by diminishing cognitive dissonance. I know, it’s a lot to digest.
Rev. Corinne showed us how even paper-cut traumas impact authenticity and awareness of one’s intrinsic integrity. Sometimes that awareness can set us on the road to profound healing.
So this Sunday, I get sex…( oh that didn’t come out right at all!)
Ken Wilbur says
“Sex is not a sin against Spirit, but a direct road to Spirit”
There’s so much to unpack in that statement, and I’m with him. So let this be a caution, cause I’m not an expert and have strong opinions about this touchy topic (pun intended). It’s loaded with potential pitfalls around gender identification, swamps of confusion about relational preferences and dead ends of helpful advice or “how things should be.”
So how do we get on … a direct road to Spirit”?
Join us this Sunday as we explore what’s on that road with an un-status quo, touchy, taboo topic - God is IN the bed! (look it up …it’s in the Center for Spiritual Living’s monthly themes!) Well.. I did change the title (It was “Let’s talk about sex, baby!).
Dairy Queen Sundaes are Good,
but our Sundays are Better!
Community, inspirational talks and music – yup, our Sundays are pretty good. But this Sunday will be even sweeter, with Sundaes on Sunday! Stay after service for community connection and a sweet treat.
Musical Treat
Linda Kidder
Delicious Sundaes are not the only treat at this week’s service. Due to popular demand, Linda Kidder is back to provide the musical inspiration! Her song, So Grateful I’m Alive, is also the featured song this week (see below).
LAST WEEK'S TALK
Trauma 101 & Spiritual Bypass
Rev. Corinne Crockett
There are many people who, despite trying to stay positive, having done repeated affirmations and spiritual practices, have felt stuck. It can be frustrating when this happens, we may feel we’re not ‘doing it right’, or that these things work for others but not for us. Last week Rev. Corinne Crockett delved into the topic of Trauma and Spiritual Bypassing. If you missed her talk, or want to see it again, click here:

Monday Evenings with Rev. John – Via Zoom
Monday Evenings with Rev. John will be an ongoing, weekly book study you can join in from the comfort of your own home via Zoom.
These weekly sessions will be held from 6:30 - 8:00pm, providing opportunity to explore and discuss a selection of books, each of which is intended to help us deepen as individuals and as a spiritual community.
These gatherings begin Monday, September 9th with a 10-week exploration of the book, Creating The Beloved Community, by Rev. Dr. Jim Lockard, a well-known and respected leader within the New Thought movement.
This book is available in paper-back or kindle version at amazon.ca. We’ve got copies available for sale on Sundays for $25.00.
While there are no requirements or registration, to get a sense of the cultural changes we aspire to , kindly attend as often as you can!
Additionally, you can be an active, contributing component to creating our own Beloved Community by donating here:
We'll post the link to the Zoom meeting closer to the event.
Fasten your seat-belts for a different Sunday experience
as we try something new and exciting in the fall
Four Agreements Workshops:
Sundays: Sept 15 & 22nd, October 6th, & November 10th.
10:30 am-12:30 pm
Studio 9 – 1180 Houghton Road, Kelowna BC
Cost: Gratitude Offering
For these four Sundays, we’ll be extending our Sunday Service time to 2-hours (10:30-12:30) as Rev. John DePalma offers a hybrid Sunday service/workshop on the Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz.
This small book outlines four principles for living a meaningful life: to be impeccable with our words, not take things personally, never make assumptions, and always do our best.
Diving deeper into these principles empowers us to make practical application of these simple, yet powerful principles to our lives.
