WHAT IS JENNY’S NUMBER?

With Rev. Melody Bailey

Last Sunday, Rev. Melody Bailey shared her favourite practices to help hear that still small voice of intuition that can negate the negative chatter the ego wants us to believe.

Ernest Holmes believed that the world's religions, science, and philosophy all share a core concept. Here we examine the similarities between Science of Mind and Hinduism.

Science of Mind, a spiritual movement focused on positive thinking and personal empowerment, and Hinduism share common ground in their emphasis on the interconnectedness of all things, the importance of self-awareness and spiritual growth, and the pursuit of understanding a higher power or universal reality.

Here's a more detailed look at the similarities:

1. Interconnectedness and Universality:

Science of Mind:

Believes in a unified consciousness or "Universal Mind" from which all things emanate and are interconnected.

Hinduism:

Emphasizes the concept of Brahman, the ultimate reality and the underlying unity of all existence, often visualized through different forms of deities.

Shared Concept:

Both point towards a universal, unifying principle that connects all beings and experiences.

2. Self-Awareness and Inner Transformation:

Science of Mind:

Focuses on cultivating positive thinking and inner strength to manifest desired outcomes and achieve personal growth.

Hinduism:

Emphasizes self-reflection, meditation, and spiritual practices (like yoga) to gain deeper self-knowledge, self-control, and a sense of oneness with the universe.

Shared Emphasis:

Both traditions encourage a shift in mindset and a journey of introspection as pathways to a better life.

3. Pursuit of a Higher Reality:

Science of Mind:

Believes in the power of consciousness and thought to shape reality and connect with the Universal Mind or God.

Hinduism:

Aims to understand and experience the ultimate reality (Brahman) through various paths, such as devotional practice, philosophical inquiry, and spiritual discipline.

Shared Goal:

Both traditions seek to transcend the limitations of the material world and experience a deeper connection with something greater than oneself.

4. Ethics and Morality

Science of Mind:

Encourages actions that promote well-being and are aligned with the principles of compassion, kindness, and cooperation.

Hinduism:

Emphasizes ethical behavior (dharma) and encourages self-control, compassion, non-violence, and truthfulness as pathways to spiritual liberation and the well-being of individuals and society.

Shared values

Both systems advocate for a code of ethics that supports personal growth and the well-being of society.

INSPIRATIONAL SONG OF THE WEEK

Hallelujah

Amy Bishop

If you’ve never heard Amy Bishop’s version of this Leonard Cohen classic, you’re in for a treat. This YouTube clip is from Bishop’s appearance on The Launch, a Canadian Television show similar to The Voice.  It’s worth it to watch the whole nine-minute clip. We have been fortunate at CSL Kelowna for Amy to grace our stage. Be prepared to experience goose-bumps as you listen!

Amy Bishop’s voice is a combination of smooth pavement and rough gravel, with the ability to charm listeners with her sweet tones; yet stun audiences with the ability to hit any high note.

Amy is a Religious Science Practitioner and the Music Director at CSL Calgary.
