Wow! September’s here… the kids are back to school…. Halloween is just around the corner!  How did summer slip away so fast?  I guess it’s a matter of perspective.  For those of us who dislike the heat, summer couldn’t be over fast enough.  But for those of us who worship the sun and the beach, summer is just too short! Time marches on and here we are in September with lots of exciting events happening at CSL Kelowna this fall.

Sunday, September 9

Perspective is Everything

Rev. Cath DePalma

Is it easy to see the Divine in all? Not really. Are we at peace with everyone we meet, especially ourselves?

Not necessarily.

Knowing that we are all living the One Life of Spirit allows us to begin to see the divinity in all beings, even those hardest to imagine that way.

Seeing from the Infinite’s perspective transforms how we view and experience our world.

Knowing all that we are takes peace to a whole other level. Are you ready?

Last Week’s Talk

You Are a “Peace” of the Jigsaw

Rev. Melody Bailey

Last Sunday, Rev. Mel looked at bringing peaceful wholeness out of the broken pieces of our lives. Drawing from wisdom across traditions, Rev. Melody shared a number of valuable practices we can use to support using finding our returning to peace when ‘life happens’.

REQUEST FOR VOLUNTEERS

BC Thanksgiving Day Food Drive

I’m looking for volunteers to help with the BC Thanksgiving Day Food Drive both Tuesday September 17th and Saturday, September 21st.

Our Centre has been joining with other faith traditions across Kelowna since 2016 to participate in supporting our local foodbank (with the exception of the lock-down).

We are grateful, as a Community, we can play a part in ensuring no one goes hungry.

Volunteers will be in teams of two - one of which will need to have a car as we are going to be driving to a designated area to drop off empty food bank bags to homes in the Rutland area, then return to pick them up.

On Tuesday, September 17th, bags will be left on doorsteps with instructions for the homeowners to fill them if they wish to participate.  Then, on Saturday, September 21st we will return to retrieve the full bags from the doorsteps.

We will meet at 6pm on Tuesday September 17th at Studio 9 first for orientation and to select your team partner if you don't already have one. I will then give you your empty bags and a map of your route for bag drop-off. After bag drop-off we will meet back at Studio 9.

Then, on September 21st we will meet back at Studio 9, 11:30 am for orientation and check-in before picking up the filled bags. After you finish your pick up, you will return to Studio 9 with your full bags and pass them off to our designated Foodbank delivery person.

If you are interested in helping, talk to Tracy at Sunday Service or email her at tbtaylor@shaw.ca.  This will be a fun and great way to give back to our community.

Blessings

Tracy Anderson

BOOK STUDY: CREATING THE BELOVED COMMUNITY

Online with Rev. John DePalma

Monday Evenings with Rev. John is an ongoing, weekly book study you can join in from the comfort of your own home via Zoom. starting on September 9, 6:30-8:00 pm.

These weekly sessions provide rich opportunity to explore and discuss a selection of books, each of which is intended to help us deepen as individuals and as a spiritual community.

These gatherings begin Monday, September 9th with a 10-week exploration of the book, Creating the Beloved Community, by Rev. Dr. Jim Lockard, a well-known and respected leader within the New Thought movement.

If you don’t have the book, you can join anyway, but your experience of these sessions will be enhanced through reading the book.

If you have your copy of the book, you can prepare for our first session by reading both the Introduction and Chapter 1.

This book is available in paper-back or kindle version at amazon.ca.

While there are no requirements or registration, to get a sense of the cultural changes we aspire to, kindly attend as often as you can!

HOW TO ORDER GALA TICKETS ON YOUR PHONE

We’ve heard from some people that they are unable to purchase tickets to the Gala on their cell phones.  When they click on the Events Link all they see is a blank page.  This is a bug that we’re trying to sort out, but in the meantime, if you just scroll down that blank page – quite a ways – you will get to the Events.

Fasten your seat-belts for a different Sunday experience

as we try something new and exciting in the fall

Four Agreements Workshops:

  • Sundays: Sept 15 & 22nd, October 6th, & November 18th.

  • 10:30 am-12:30 pm

  • Studio 9 – 1180 Houghton Road, Kelowna BC

Cost:  Gratitude Offering

For these four Sundays, we’ll be extending our Sunday Service time to 2-hours (10:30-12:30) as Rev. John DePalma offers a hybrid Sunday service/workshop on the Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz.

This small book outlines four principles for living a meaningful life: to be impeccable with our words, not take things personally, never make assumptions, and always do our best.

Diving deeper into these principles empowers us to make practical application of these simple, yet powerful principles to our lives.
