Toxic Positivity
— Dr. Deborah Gordon
Suppose we didn’t deny or avoid pain, but rather embraced it as an invitation to higher consciousness, deeper love, and the opportunity to be more resolute to faith in action. “I believe everything is as real as it is supposed to be. If a person hurts, he hurts; … there is no use denying it.”
— Ernest Holmes
Ernest Holmes reminds us: “There is this question, however, which naturally rises: Why all the suffering, sorrow, and pain; why has tragedy accompanied the journey of man? … There is no other way through which true individuality can evolve. Man must be let alone to discover himself, else be compelled, arbitrarily, to follow one road, in which case he would be an automaton and not an individual.” When our life is not working the way we would like, pain invites us to revisit our purpose and consciously redirect our path.

The SOM theme for June is “The Soul’s Call”. Carl Jung said, “Who looks outside, dreams; who looks inside, awakens.” The Soul’s call is this deeply intimate, challenging, exponentially powerful, and globally beneficial work we are invited to do daily.
This Week’s Science of Mind Theme
Pushed by Pain
There never was a mistake made, there are no mistakes being made and there never will be.
Your life goes through seasons just like a garden. Pain is like the fertilizer you use to prepare the grass, flowers or trees to grow. Fertilizers work by providing essential nutrients required for a strong, healthy plant. Pain can provide an essential ingredient required for your development. Think of pain as preparing the soil of your life to represent your deepest soul purpose.
Anything not in alignment with your best and highest good arises to be replaced. A painful experience helps you move away from something that is out alignment with your deepest desires. Identify how this pain is pushing you toward what you really want. Now is the time to get rid of anything that is a barrier to your best life.
The pain you are experiencing right now can’t stop you from moving toward a brighter future or a better life. Renew your commitment to demonstrate your best life yet! Choose the qualities of God that have been missing. Increase your spiritual practice. As you shed old ways and false beliefs, faith deepens, and you begin manifesting the life you have longed for. Your journey through the pain is your pathway to joy.
No one enjoys painful experiences. But instead of avoiding pain, ignoring pain or pretending it doesn’t exist, we can accept it and use it in a positive way. This week, remember whatever pain you are experiencing can inspire you to choose what you want instead. Transform that pain into fertilizer and then do the work to transform your life.
